Coverage & Plan
The fastest way is our Check My Coverage tool — enter your details and you'll see your plan, what's covered, your deductible, and your coverage dates in under a minute. Your full contract also lists everything in detail.

CareGard® offers a range of vehicle protection: Mechanical (powertrain and component) coverage, GAP, Tire & Wheel, Key replacement, Dent protection, and other ancillary products. The exact coverages on your vehicle depend on what you purchased — check your coverage to see yours.

Coverage depends on your specific plan and the part being repaired. The quickest way to know is to check your coverage to see your covered components, or have your repair facility start a claim — our claims team confirms coverage before any work is authorized.

A manufacturer warranty comes free with a new vehicle and lasts a set time or mileage. A vehicle service contract (like your CareGard® plan) is protection you purchase that can extend coverage well beyond the factory warranty — helping cover the cost of covered mechanical repairs after the manufacturer's coverage ends.

Your term is defined by a length of time and/or a mileage limit, whichever comes first. You can see your start date, expiration date, and mileage limit anytime with Check My Coverage, or on your contract.

A deductible is the amount you pay toward a covered repair visit; CareGard® covers the rest of the approved repair. Your deductible amount is listed on your contract and shown in Check My Coverage.

Many CareGard® plans include added benefits like rental reimbursement, roadside assistance, and towing — but it depends on the plan you purchased. Check your coverage to see which benefits are included on your contract.

In most cases, yes — your remaining coverage can be transferred one time to a private buyer, which can make your vehicle more attractive to sell. See the Transfer of Your Contract section of your contract for details, then use our Transfer tool to start.

Claims & Repairs
You can file a claim online in about five minutes — we'll guide you step by step. Your repair facility can also submit the claim on your behalf. Either way, our claims team reviews it and coordinates directly with the shop.

Have your contract number, your vehicle's VIN, the current mileage, the repair facility's details, and the repair estimate (including part numbers) ready. Our File a Claim form walks you through each piece, and you can upload the estimate right in the form.

Yes. When you start a claim, there's an option to indicate you're a repair facility or service advisor submitting on a customer's behalf — and the form will ask for the shop and repair details it needs.

Most claims are reviewed quickly — our U.S.-based claims team works to make a decision as fast as possible once they have the repair estimate and any needed documentation. The best way to keep things moving is to submit a complete estimate with all part numbers up front.

For approved claims, CareGard® pays the repair facility directly for the covered amount. You're responsible for your deductible and any charges not covered by your plan.

You can generally use any licensed repair facility. Once a claim is started, our team works directly with your chosen shop to confirm the diagnosis and authorize covered repairs.

If a claim isn't approved, our team will explain why. Many issues come down to missing maintenance records or repairs outside your coverage. You're welcome to provide additional documentation or call us at 888-565-2580 to discuss your options.

Yes — keep records of your oil changes and factory-recommended maintenance. These confirm the vehicle was properly maintained and may be requested when a claim is reviewed. Hold onto receipts and service invoices.

Cancellation
We recommend first contacting the dealer where you purchased your contract — they process cancellations and issue any refund due. If you can't reach them, you can submit a cancellation request to us directly and we'll take it from there.
Was this helpful?
No problem — complete our cancellation request and submit it with your supporting documentation. You can also email a completed cancellation form, along with documentation, to cancels@afgusa.net.

Please allow up to 15 business days for a cancellation to be processed.

A cancellation refund typically takes 4–8 weeks to be fully processed and sent. The dealer where you purchased your contract is the one who issues the refund.
Was this helpful?
It depends on when you cancel. Cancellations within the contract's money-back period may be eligible for a full refund; after that, refunds are typically prorated based on time elapsed and miles driven, per your contract terms.

To verify your cancellation mileage, please include one of the following: a clear photo of your current odometer, a signed odometer disclosure form, or a bill of sale showing current mileage. Our cancellation form lets you upload these directly.

Transfer
Look for the section titled “Transfer of Your Contract” on your contract — it explains whether your contract is transferable and the transfer fee amount. Don't have your contract handy? Call us at 817-552-4100 and we can email you a copy.

The easiest way is our online Transfer tool, which walks you through eligibility, the new owner's details, required documents, and the transfer fee. You can also mail a completed transfer form with supporting documentation and the fee to 1900 Champagne Blvd, Grapevine, TX 76051.

The CareGard® contract transfer fee is $50. If a transfer is denied, whoever paid the fee is reimbursed, with a refund check mailed within 5 business days.
Was this helpful?
Yes — the transfer must be completed within 30 days of the sale of the vehicle, and the contract can be transferred only once. The transfer must be initiated by the original contract holder.
Was this helpful?
No. A transfer can't be made if the title passes through anyone other than the private buyer — for example, if the vehicle is traded in at a dealership, returned to a leasing company, or repossessed by a lienholder.

Once the transfer is processed, CareGard® mails the new owner a copy of the contract showing their information. Coverage becomes active after the new owner's form is received and CareGard® sends an acknowledgment letter. If it doesn't arrive within 30 days, call 817-552-4100.
